Hi. Hello. I’m back, or at least I’m writing another blog post since it’s been awhile and I feel the itch to start writing posts again. I haven’t been in the mood to post online, at least on social media, in a long time. I mainly just stick to updating my website and posting art once in awhile whenever I finish something. It doesn’t help that this year has just been one thing after another in my personal life so I’ve been too tired to really do anything outside of work and trying to recover from working. So not much has changed from my last post LMAO but I remain hopeful as always.
I’ll be honest I do also think that microblogging has slightly fried my brain and writing formal blog posts feels like pulling teeth to me. I know that’s the whole point of modern social media, to fry people’s attention spans, and I’ve been working on fixing mine but I’m realizing that I just don’t like the tone of your average blog post. This shit feels like I’m writing an essay for one of my college courses! I vastly prefer the informal tone and personal blog posts that you’d find on Tumblr and Dreamwidth, I want a online diary! I already have a physical diary and my digital journal in Obsidian (I also have to write about Obsidian at some point because I’m a BIG fan of it lol) but I deeply miss having a personal blog so here we are.
I keep making these kinds of meta posts so here’s some of the things I’ve been up to lately:
- I’ve been working on my website again, well I’ve been working on it but mainly on a lot of behind the scenes stuff which is not fun or interesting to look at or talk about I think. I switched hosting providers and downsized a bit from a VPS to shared hosting since money is kind of tight right now I realized that I didn’t need a VPS when all I’m using it for is simple web-hosting and my RSS reader.
- Still working on my relationship with art. I talked about it more in my last post. That’s still kind of in the “social media bad” territory so I won’t go into detail about how it got this bad but doing daily studies and getting back into traditional art has been helping a lot. I’m also working on my digital workflow and trying to figure out how to make ‘finished’ art without it taking 6 months. A lot of it for me is going back to how I used to render and abusing dithering to make blending easier. Coloring still eludes me but I haven’t started to work on that serious yet. Also getting the wacom one pen for my tablet was a game changer, I have a Galaxy Tab and the s-pen that came with it is super thin and hurt my hands to draw with it for long periods of time. The wacom one pen is thicker and feels so much better to draw with! I highly recommend it.
- I got a new pet last month! It’s my first pet that I’ve gotten since I started living on my own and since my childhood cat passed away last year but I felt that I was ready to welcome a new friend into my life. I ended up getting a gargoyle gecko! Her name is Goop (temporary name that stuck) and I love her very much. I LOVE reptiles but unfortunately I’m very skittish around them (I’m very anxious and easily startled myself so I worry that I’ll accidentally hurt them), I have a easier time handling the more mellow species so I chose a garg since they’re more docile and Goop is very chill with me handling her. Also they’re very easy to take care of, very similar to cresties which we sell at my job so I’m very familiar with the care requirements for them. I’m also the kind of person who does a shit ton of research before getting an animal because like I said I’m very anxious lol. She’s been doing fine so far though, she’s gotten very comfortable in her new home. I got a camera to watch her at night and she’s been exploring and eating regularly.
I originally wrote this post for my website’s blog but I’m posting it here since I want to transition over to using this as my main blog. This is probably going to be the only post here that’s written like this but who knows. I like to be fast and loose with my blogs and I promise absolutely nothing.
Almost forgot, here’s a picture of Goop:
